Is God Good?
As a child, I was often confused about what I was supposed to understand about religion. They would teach us stories from the Old Testament in Sunday school and we would read about how God destroyed this person or that person or in some cases a lot of people and I would sit and wonder what kind of person was this we were worshiping. Based on my own upbringing, I knew a thing or two about might not making right and how it felt to be on the side of someone you had to love because they kept you alive and yet fear incredibly because they could turn on you in an instant and so I recognized what I saw for what it was perhaps better than peers in my class.
I asked questions about this from time to time. How was it good for God to kill when it's not okay for us to? Those sorts of questions. They were not well received and seldom answered because, frankly, no one teaching Sunday school had given them any thought. They assumed that God was good...after all, apparently he was on our side...but I never made that assumption.
Recently, I was sent this video and I must say, these are -just- the types of questions I had as a child about the goodness of God:

As an adult, I realize that I really have no innate need to believe in any supreme being. Science more than adequately explains all I see and I can see no compelling arguments that would convince me that I should worship any mythical supernatural creatures. If I did, I'm certain it wouldn't be the god of the Christians, Jews, and Muslims; I'm convinced that if this god exists, he's a monster.
And just because a monster is on your side doesn't change the fact that it's a fucking monster.
